How to Boost Innovation in the Workplace

Innovation comes from 2 things:

Taking risks and making mistakes.

If you want to encourage employees to innovate...

You must show it’s okay to make mistakes

Because if employees are afraid of making mistakes — they’ll never take any risks!

And a great way to do that is by being vulnerable.

Because by showing YOUR imperfections — you let employees know THEY don’t have to be perfect.

Making them more willing to TAKE RISKS and MAKE MISTAKES.

Here are 3 ways to be a more vulnerable leader:

1. Admit Your Mistakes

Make sure to ALWAYS admit any mistakes you make. Doing so will earn respect, build trust, and show that it’s okay to mess up.

To start off — think of a recent mistake you made(no matter how small).

And go take responsibility for it.

You’ll get more comfortable doing it. And you’ll instantly see results.

2. Share Your Fears

Try sharing some of your fears about important decisions you have to make.

By doing so — you’ll show that you trust them enough to share something like that. And that you’re a confident, transparent, and authentic leader.

3. Ask for Feedback

By asking for honest feedback — you show that you KNOW you’re not perfect.

But instead of waiting for annual reviews, or feedback from other “official” channels.

Start asking for it right then and there.

For example:

At the end of a meeting, ask: “On a scale from 1-10, how was this meeting for you?”
