This Will KILL Your Remote Team
It’ll create confusion…
Cause conflicts...
Increase turnover…
And eventually — DESTROY your team…
IF you don’t fix it.
What is it?
POOR COMMUNICATION
Here are 3 quick tips to avoid it…
1. Have frequent & consistent communication
When you’re working remotely — you have very little context as to what’s happening outside your world.
By having frequent and consistent communication you strengthen the context, transparency, and predictability of work. Which are all needed for great communication.
2. Mix it up
Make sure to mix up the FORM of communication.
Think about what you want to communicate and what form of communication would best achieve that.
For example:
Rescheduling a meeting?
Make it an email. It’s quick, simple, and doesn’t make them drop what they’re doing.
Weekly 1-on-1 check-in?
Make it a video call. They’re more personal and allows you to better gauge the other person’s emotions
etc...
3. Foster personal connections
People with personal connections communicate better.
This is why you’ll want to know what your team member’s interests and hobbies are. Once you know these types of things — you can start strategically pairing people with similar interests together.
For example:
If you know two team members like to play Guitar — you could start a conversation between them about playing the Guitar.
